  • What was the best birthday present you got?

First of all I love how this question is phrased...  Anyways, when I was born my mom knitted me a red, white and blue blanket that I had for years.  In fact I think I used it until I was about 17 when I lost it (I still don't know where it is to this day).   It was both comfortable and had sentimental value, so I was a bit sad when it went missing.  I even put up "missing blanket" flyers on telephone polls in the area ().  After a few months of therapy my mom actually decided to knit me a new blanket for either a birthday or Christmas present one year.  This one is blue, tan and very comfortable and is on my bed at my apartment as I write this.  But I think the reason it means so much to me is because it took my mom quite a lot of effort to knit it and I know she did it as a gesture of love.

Have you ever grown attached to a blanket?

  • What is beauty?

About a week ago on a kayak trip with my brother I found myself looking up at some migrating geese heading south to escape the coming cold.  I had wondered how many times they had made this trip and if it was the first time for some of them.  I could feel the cold beginning to sting my own skin and almost wished I could join them.  Other things around me - the orange, blowing leaves and grey sky - gave additional evidence to the ending of one season and the beginning of another.  Sometimes for me it's hard to notice the beauty around me that can be seen in things such as the changing of seasons.  But as I was floating past golden cornfields, perched owls and thirsty deer on the Kishwaukee in a borrowed kayak, I found it quite a bit easier.

  • If you could travel through time, what era would you visit and why?

I hesitate to use this answer because it probably sounds like a copout but I'd probably go back to the time of Christ.  There is arguably not a more influential person considering that roughly 1/3 of our world is Christian of some sort (even our calendar revolves around the birth of Christ) (link).  I would probably like to hear the sermon on the mount or taste the water-turned-to-wine.  Heck maybe I'd grab a drink with Jesus while he is rebuked for hanging out with "sinners", I don't know.  But mainly I'd go just to be a spectator or a witness to the person who changed our world more than any other.

  • What is your biggest regret?

In 8th grade my family moved from the city about 15 miles west out to the country.  I was at a pretty good school at the time but I decided to be homeschooled that year because I thought it would make moving during the school year easier.   But I found out being homeschooled actually made things more difficult as I wasn't connected with my school friends.  This isn't my biggest regret by any means and it happened years ago but I do remember the feelings of loneliness I felt when moving away from many of my closest friends compiled with leaving a school (my dog died that year too...is this beginnning to sound like a bad country song?).  This isn't a bash on homeschooling either as I think it can be a good thing, provided the right circumstances.  For me personally there were certain things I liked about being homeschooled but that ended up being the only year I chose that route.  The next four years were spent at a new public highschool and overall were not filled with much regret.

Do you think homeschooling is a good concept?

  • Irregular Heartbeat

Some of my favorite pulse entries of mine are the ones that don't make any sense.   OK so must of my pulse entries don't make any sense, but some stand out a bit more...

“I went to a fight and a hockey hand broke out”       10/10/2007

    “I”      9-4-2007

    “It's gonna be 96 lands”       8-23-2007-10-11

    "I like number eleven"      2-26-07

The top one happened because of predictive texting on my phone.  "Hand" and "game" are typed the same on a cell phone, and I was a bit lazy in my proofreading.  The next one occured right after I bought a case for my new cell phone which made typing a bit more difficult (the case didn't last much longer).  I really can't explain the third one, and the last one I meant to send to someone else.  I think we were talking about our favorite tracks on the newest Anberlin CD.  Anyways, there is a method to my madness (sometimes) to those who were wondering...

While typing this I just had an idea...  What if one of the next presidential debates took place on Pulse?  We could all text in our questions and their responses would show up on the Pulse timeline.  There are the Youtube debates...what about the Pulse debates?

Do you use Pulse?  Why or why not?

  • My brother's had a Xanga site for a few months now and I've been meaning to link to it.  But I've been trying to get him to upload some audio first because he writes some pretty sweet stuff.  Anyways, check out his post today about his brief encounter with insomnia.  I thought it was a good read.

  • Does your Internet persona differ much from you in real life? Why or why not?

I know this featured question is a bit old but I thought I'd answer it anyways.  I figure it's time for me to finally come clean.  That skinny white guy image I've been pushing is a hoax.  Here's what I really look like...

Ok so in reality I think I probably don't display my worst sides online.  I think it's easy to be selective about pics and content to the point of being dishonest.  While I don't think I've done that, I think I'm probably guilty of what most people are guilty of online - being selective.  But I don't think that's necessarily a bad thing.  For example, some people are losing their jobs because of things they are post online.  Others are giving away too much information and risking their personal or financial security.  I on the other hand tend to be fairly reserved when it comes to the intarweb...for better or worse.
