  • 25 Hour Day

In 1965, U.S. Nobel laureate Herbert Simon predicted that “by 1985 Machines will be capable of doing any work Man can do”.  Yet 1985 has passed, and machines are still not doing all of our work for us.  As a result, some people have demanded a 6 hour work day.  Others have tried gaining an extra hour of sleep by taking missions to Mars, a planet which has 25 hour days.

Would you rather have a 6 hour work day or an extra hour of sleep per night?

  • hmm…depends if I’m on salary or hourly wages :)

  • six hour workday .. i’d go to bed even later knowing that i had that extra hour =/

  • How many hours would i work with an extra hour of sleep per night?

  • I’d much rather have a 6 hour day, as long as wages were raised to compensate for less hours worked per week. An extra hour of sleep would do me no good, as I can only sleep so many hours anyway. Frankly, a better answer for me would be working four 10 hour days and having three day weekends.

RYC: It would be pure craziness! But that’s what makes it so amusing.

  • definitely an extra hour of sleep.
    that’d put me at like 5, 6 a night.
    booo lack of sleep.

  • ryc: it’s the photo module wizard. for some reason it put it on the side like that. thanks!  –Tiffany

  • … you figured it out I see…

  • Man i’m jealous of the layout of your site…how do you get those links on the left and that xanga audio there? Nice box on the left also with those pictures

  • I wish I had more than 24 hours a day if I had to meet a lot of deadlines or, if I did not want to lack my sleep for browing the net for extra hours. However, I do not like the idea of 6 hr work day/ 4 day work week because it would potentially screw up the economy.

ryc: Thanks. I am very excited about the results, and looking forward to the presentation. Even though I thought the results were great, I still need criticism from the experts at the seminar.

  • As a teacher I’d never really have a 6 hour work day regardless of the circumstances, so I’d be all about the sleep.

  • Id rather have a 10-hr work day and 5 hourse of extra sleep

  • can you lose your voice for one day, for those who will never have one?

&&… 6 hour workday.  because if i got another whole hour of sleep a night, i’d be lethargic all day.

  • i’d take the 6 hrs. as long as i get the same take home pay.

  • Um…i’d take an extra hour of sleep…: wink :Zzzzzzzz…hehe: wink :Have a nice day Pete…

  • An extra hour of sleep. I love sleeping, though my mother says I didn’t like it as a baby. I worked 10-hour days for a while and survivied. Curling up in a comfy bed is way more valuable to me than having two less hours of work a day.

  • No amount of sleep ever seems to get me goin these days :-/ SO I’m opting for the six hour work day : smile :

    Rock on!

  • I would go with the extra hour of sleep.

  • baby, I’m everybody’s midol.

Bet you never thought you’d hear that.

  • six hour work day, I’m sure I can steal the extra hour here and there too.: cool :

  • definitely the shorter work day. my sleep problems would be solved.

  • at a WEDDING??  Oh man, I would cry.

  • i’d definitely want an extra hour of sleep! 8 hrs just isnt enuff! Plus i need more money than just six hrs a day can give me.

  • No work. No sleep.

  • RYC: My alarm clock failed again this morning, and I was an hour late for work. You’d think they’d call me wondering where I was. Guess they don’t love me that much. I’ve been in a news designer chatroom for the past hour and a half when I should have been in bed! My cell phone alarm better work tomorrow.

  • I think it will depend on how much I’m making. If I am working on salary then I’d rather work 6 hour days. But if I’m hourly, I’d rather get the extra hour of sleep. Even though in the long run, a shorter work day would be better then just the one extra hour per night of zzZZzz.

  • 6 hour work day.

    RYC:

Politics are so iffy. I was just commenting to a high school buddy of mine about how nervous I am about Bush these days and how he respects just those people whom he chooses to respect, and not those who if he would respect might alleviate a lot of problems in the future, particularly speaking of Iran and N. Korea, Venezeula too. Thank you for reminding me again of Africa. I do think the government should focus their attention there. And the sad part of it all is I don’t they are because they don’t have as much oil as does Iraq and Iran. Money talks. At least we can trust that God will work it all out in the future.

    thanks for your comment.

  • Have a great weekend Pete…: tongue :

  • your welcome Have a good one and God bless-
    Katie

  • Proves that even Nobel laureates can say idiotic things and prove not to be prophets.

  • i can’t sleep well anyway, but i would love to work for six hours and get paid for eight :)

  • the hours you get mony

  • i’m merely getting rolling in 6 hours,
    give me the sleep, please!

  • i’m lucky if i can get down to a 70 hour work week, let alone a 30 hour work week.

  • Did you do the mandolin song in that side box? I was just listening to the front porch song again, and it reminds me of something…but I just can’t figure it out. Maybe there was a time in my life when a song similar to that was playing. Hmmm..

  • THAT’S IT! I’ve had it with Earth. I am moving to Mars! :lauging:
