Awkward Dating-Site Moment
I've been on and off a few dating sites for the past couple of years and have had some good conversations and some not so good. Yet one of the most awkward conversations I've had through one of these sites occurred about two weeks ago when a girl I hadn't talked to in several months called me completely out of the blue at almost midnight on a Saturday night. I was with a friend at the time and decided not to answer, hoping she'd leave a message. Yet she didn't call back or leave a message so the next day I texted her to catch up and inquire why she called. We texted back and forth for a little while, which was well and good but then she asked me if I was still dating the same girl from Wisconsin. At this point I was beginning to think she was crazy because I had been single for the past few months and couldn't for the life of me remember dating someone from Wisconsin. After some more texting things just got worse as she said she remembered me telling her about this girl just a week ago. So after much confusion I started to wonder if she had me confused with somebody else from that dating site, so I decided to tell her my name. Needless to say she did have me confused with somebody else and she was really embarrassed and apologized. In the end, though, we were able to catch up a bit and had a few good laughs at least and put an end to a really confusing conversation...

No, I'm scared to death of them, lol. I feel like the internet already has control over so many other aspects of my life... Actually, I don't like random dates all that much. I'd prefer to just chill with a guy and then casually move into "dating," i.e. chilling with a guy + mutual attraction. I just feel like it's hard to get to know someone while you're constantly worried about your appearance and whether you'll have to make out at your doorstep afterward, so something about those random dates seems backwards to me, I guess. I suppose I could chat it up with people via the sites first, but I dunno... I feel like I should be able to find people on my own in everyday life - perhaps it's a pride issue. That being said, I barely use my phone and most of my friendships are maintained through facebook and AIM.
I HAVE browsed the locals on Match, however, and recently I found one of my stalkers from my previous job on there, so yeah, I'm not going to be using that site anytime soon, hahaha. I also filled out half the EHarmony survey in a moment of desperation a few years ago, but that thing was so detailed it REALLY freaked me out... like an arranged marriage or something... like in the future, all humans will have partners/careers/diets chosen by robots... *shiver*
Well, at least she actually did have you confused with someone else. I prefer a confused person over a delusional one any day!
I've never used a dating site. I've been married for 14.5 years. Dating sites were nonexistent when I was single!
confession, i have used a dating site, but it creeped me out a bit so i quit fairly quickly. I only really met one person that i talked to more than once. That girl was pretty cool though, lived about 20 miles from Judson (while i was going there).
Now instead I play Second Life and go on virtual dates online. It is even creepier, but it is more of an escape from real life because you don't talk about your real life much, try to avoid personal details. It is definitely creepy, but a lot of fun. Better than video games at least.

No and I don't plan to...that is really creepy/ uncomfortable
so clearly i am in the minority here.I do make use of dating sites, as i am usually at home or the hospital, and my free hours in which to meet people are fairly limited. Sometimes it works better than others, but the bad ones all lead to good stories at least
@eowynnabeeowyn - random dates are all well and good, and i totally get the pride thing, but some professions dont allow that kind of free time to meet people.
Haha.. interesting story. Can't say that I've used a dating site, but I have dated someone I met on Myspace. Does that count?
I remember browsing them on more than one occasion, but never made use of any. I always felt odd visiting a dating site, probably because I was more curious about it than I was about actually meeting a potential mate. Something didn't feel right to me. Even if I was still single, I don't think I'd be keen on using them... I'd prefer to be single than actively search for a date, just not my style.
Even better than a dating site, I tried speed dating. That was wild. Unfortunately, nothing came of it. I think it's something everyone should experience just for the entertainment value.

i never tried one.. if i needed one now i would definitely try it because it would increase my likelihood of success at spending quality time with someone new who has been screened.

@eowynnabeeowyn - I'm on eharmony but it's too expensive. Okcupid is free and is a great site so I don't delete it. But I've been tempted haha

I've never done an online dating site. They make me nervous for some reason. Though I would be okay with dating someone I meet off of Xanga. I'm not sure why it's different, but I think on Xanga you can learn quite a bit about someone before ever even speaking with them. You're able to see them interact with others too.
